I went the comical route this year for my dad's Father's Day card. A couple months ago a friend and I went to the "Fresh Ink" section of Hallmark and laughed until we cried. I know people were looking at us but who cares. Honestly I don't know if they would have been as funny had I been standing there by myself but with her it made it that much better. We kept pulling them out and reading them to each other with tears streaming down our face. Try this sometime! Great stress reliever.
Anyway, I found a birthday card that totally reminded me of my dad. I bought it and then I "remade" it using a 1986 family picture and turned it into a Father's Day card. I posted it above. (click to make it larger)
I love the little "his bark was always bigger than his bite" quote. This is SO true for my dad! He has a rough, tough, big guy demeanor but has the heart of a teddy bear. And yes I do remember a time or two when he turned around and said the ever famous "If I have to turn around one more time . . ."
I remember one trip to Florida about halfway there when he had enough. He asked mom for the map and she couldn't find it right away. Probably because of all the toys, books, juice boxes, (heck we were even allowed to take our pet kitty on that trip) that were in the truck. He pulled over to a rest stop and just started grabbing what he could and chucking it outside on the grass till he found the map. We were a little scared at the time but looking back it's pretty funny.
These trips are just one of the many memories I have of my dad. He worked SO HARD yet he always came home at night and made time to play with me and my brother. That pickup camper went on many camping trips with our family. We look back and wonder how all four of us ever fit in there without going crazy. However, we were all a lot smaller back then!
On the inside of the card it says-
"Hapy Father's Day, dad.
(and thanks for never leaving me behind)
also, thanks for all the great memories."
Thanks for everything dad. You are the reason I'm the person I am today. Couldn't have accomplished any of it without your support. You are forever not only my dad but my best friend.
I did these layouts awhile ago but they go so well with this Father's Day blog post!
